Welcome to my blog

I am a Melbourne Portrait Photographer specialising in baby, children and family photography.
I adore children and babies, always have and always will. Their straight up innocence and un-spoilt perspective is so precious in this crazy world in which we walk.
I love my photography. I've always been a visual person, artistic. I always search for the beauty in life - photography documents that.
My blog is both a personal documentary for me - illustrated with pictures I've taken along the way. And a chance for me to showcase the wonderful people that I am lucky to photograph :-)

She’s a little bit of sunshine

She’s a smile to light our days

She will steal our hearts and

Keep them with her warm endearing ways

She’s our precious little daughter

With a sweetness from above

Who will fill our years with laughter

And our lives with lots of love.

Take a sprinkling of fairy dust,

An angel’s single feather,

Also a dash of love and care,

Then mix them both together.

Add a sentiment or two,

A thoughtful wish or line,

A touch of stardust, a sunshine ray…..

It’s a recipe for a baby girl truly fine.

Nat’s 70?s Show! Melbourne child, portrait photographer

August 22, 2010

Both Chloe and I take singing lessons. Chloe does it for pure fun, me too but I do sing alot when I teach at GymbaROO and therefore wish to sing the best that ‘I can’! Nope, I’m not a good singer, I sing low – like a man (alto), and all kids songs are too high for me. My pitch is pretty good, the sound of my voice ‘meh’ (I hate my voice).

Chloe is good – and getting better all the time. Her pitch is spot on.

So every year, Natalie (Naturally Music) puts on a show – this year it was a 70′s theme. Her 40 or so student range from 6years-40+years! I’m in the latter lol.

Chloe was in 7 numbers (Livin’ in the 70′s, Time Warp, You can’t stop the Music, The tide is High, Keep On, Shake your Groove Thing, Don’t rain on my Parade) – I just did the one solo (Love is in the Air and came on at the start), then I photographed the rest.

It was such a fun night – and by the end we were all EXHAUSTED.

Thanks again Nat for all your hard work, your vision and nurturing to give us the opportunity to participate in your show. Love ya girl :-)

St Kilda Stroll! Melbourne family photographer

August 10, 2010

Yesterday was a wonderful day. The kids had the day off school so that the teachers could train on the new UltraNet.  So we drove to my sister’s in St Kilda to spend the day with Gin and my Dad on his last day in Melb till Feb. He has a lovely few months ahead cruising the Tahitian tropical islands…..what a job!

So yesterday was a beautiful day, sun shining, gentle breeze -even a teeny bit of warmth to be felt in the sun. So we headed out for lunch, then for an amble in the park.

Henry kept us entertained with his ‘uh oh’s’ – at the top of his voice (of course). Boys only have one volume setting – LOUD! And Jesse kept Henry entertained, just by being there. Henry really looks up to Jesse, I think it’s the big boy thing. I’m so glad I brought my camera along – I have been leaving it behind, it’s big and cumbersome to take around with me. But I did really want to get some photos with Dad before he heads off again for the next 6 months.

So here are a few snaps from our day yesterday…

Jess was complaining he was tired, we didn't realise he wasnt feeling well.

Gin and Chloe

too tired to walk, so he rolled the length of the soccer field, had to use more energy I reckon

Chloe pushed that pusher all day

Dad and Gin pretending to be natural!

COPYRIGHT Gin Knight! Cuz that's me in the red shirt...hate being on the other side

Jess in my afro wig

Dad in my afro wig! Been a long time since he had hair up on top lol

Yep, yesterday was a lovely day. I have just dropped Dad of at the airport, so won’t see him now until Feb / Mar 2011 :(

  • Amanda · Posted August 10, 2010 at 7:24 pm · Link

:-( Somehow it’s so much harder when he isn’t just a ‘plane trip’ away isn’t it.

  • Carla Busk · Posted August 22, 2010 at 1:23 pm · Link

O Amanda I love these, your sister is gorgeous and your kids adorable, as for your dad, the photo with him and his cap, awesome, he looks like he is somewhere sitting at a cafe in France:) So wish we had more city life here:(

Singing Concert Rehearsal

August 7, 2010

Both Chloe (my 10 year old daughter) and I do singing lessons! I’ve always loved singing and because I sing alot when I teach at GymbaROO, I thought it was prudent to ‘improve my voice’! I’m an alto – in other words my voice is deep and I sing like a man. When I was a teenager I have memories of driving to nightclubs with 2 of my girlfriends, singing”Tell me More” from the Grease soundtrack. They sung the Livvy and girl parts – and yep, I sung John Travolta and the boys! So relate this back to my teaching….teaching babies and tots you sing in a high voice, young children like higher voices!  Eeeeekkkkk – not easy for me. And for those of you who have had a session with me, you’ll already know that I sing to the kids almost constantly! Singing is a wonderful tool to get their attention, I can guarantee that if a kid is picking their nose (like so many do), and you exclaim ‘darling stop picking  your nose’, they’ll just keep on picking away. But if you sing ‘put your hands on your knees on your knees’, you will get their instant attention through the song, and they will put their hands on their knees, this works almost EVERY time!

So back to the rehearsal bit,  Chloe adores her singing, it is her favourite activity, and she is lucky. She has really good pitch and her voice is getting stronger and sounding lovely. Her latest fave is ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ (she’s a big Glee fan).

In a week and a half, Naturally Music is having their annual concert. Chloe is in heaps of it, I’ve been a bit naughty and got out of most of it – because I’m taking photos hehee. Not too worried about singing, but the dance moves yikes…..I’m more like an uncoordinated elephant!

So here are a few photos of Chloe at the rehearsal we had on Thursday nite. And a couple of Natalie’s boy rehearsing too…enjoy Nat.

    haha!
I saw the link on your facebook page and wanted to see what Chole gets up to when shes not in the pool!
very nice, maybe next time instead of trying to steal my whiteboard marker to change the swimming set she could persuade me to change it with her singing (im sure shes waaaaaaaaaay better than me! im pretty much tone deaf…although, maybe i can get her to train harder if i threaten to sing!)

From your awesome swimming coach, Katharine :)

P.S Im also a HUGE glee fan :P

  • Amanda · Posted August 7, 2010 at 1:23 pm · Link

haha very funny thanks for giving me a tip. On Sunday i’m going to make you sing in front of the class whether you want to or not :-)

    Clo Jo
P.S I can’t wait to hear your AMAZING singing voice because I’m sure there will be a few laughs.
